Hey everybody,
just a quick note that The Ramones Museum Berlin will be closed from next week on.

The landlord raised the rent about 300% and he actually found someone who is willing to pay an astronomic amount of money for our gabba gabba headquarters. So from now on people can buy soap in the basement of Solmsstr. 30, formerly known as the home of the Ramones Museum. Call it the C.B.G.B syndrome: Once your area is hip, all cool things must go.

ANYWAY: As we were hoping to the last second that we were allowed to stay, we do not have a location to fall back on. BUT: Of course Ramones Museum sees things positive and we hope to reopen in an ever nicer, bigger, brighter and ground leveled location any time soon. We’ll use december and january to negotiate our options and then decide where to move.

We’ll keep you posted on all things Ramones Museum, all info and news you can find on our webpage www.ramonesmuseum.com and www.myspace.com/ramonesmuseum

Thanks for your time, help and support. We’ll be back soon,

Gabba Gabba Hey!

*** IT’S ALIVE SPECIAL *** EXCLUSIVE FOOTAGE & PHOTOS!!!

Dear all,
Just a quick note that crazy things have been happening the last few days. Not only will we have

- exclusive and never before seen Ramones photos from photographer Paul Slattery who attended the legendary “It’s Alive” gig at the Roundhouse in London 1977! Paul provided us with 9 incredible and mindblowing images from this New Year’s show which will we have on display on December 30 and 31 ONLY! So make sure to come down to the museum to check them out.

- our legendary Ramones Museum lottery with truly insane prices. This time we dug some really cool memorabilia from our basement: A 1996 tour shirt from the last ever Ramones show in Argentina + tons of other cool gimmicks like shirts, posters, photos, LP’s, CD’s and DVD’s!

- AND NOW: We will be able to show 1 (ONE!) song from the legendary Ramones New Year’s perfomance on FILM! Yes, that’s right. Ramones Museum Berlin will show the “It’s Alive” footage from the song “Pinhead” for the very first time ever! See the boys waving the two sided Gabba Gabba Hey/Happy New Year sign and see what The Ramones look like when they’re covered in confetti!!! This is your only chance to see any footage from this show until summer next year, when this previously unreleased Ramones film will appear on a DVD (tentatively) called “It’s Alive – The Ramones live 1974-1996”, stuffed with Ramones live footage from all eras and various countries, put together by long time Ramones video director George Seminara and the Ramones family.

So make sure to come down to the Ramones Museum because The Ramones have never been more alive than now…

December 26, 2006

Hi everyone,

looks like we have another highlight in the history of the Ramones Museum coming up! This year’s last two days, Saturday and Sunday, December 30 and 31, Ramones Museum will invite you to our special IT’S ALIVE weekend here in Berlin, exactly 29 years after the recording of this legendary Ramones live album.

We will not only play “It’s Alive” all weekend long but we will also have an exclusive photo exhibition – including 5 never before seen photos from the Ramones’ legendary performance at London’s Rainbow Theatre/New Year’s 1977, provided to us by photographer Paul Slattery who attended this show and captured the excitement and rawness of this historic gig with his camera.

See The Ramones perform in all their glory and see the two sided Gabba Gabba Hey/Happy New Year sign that The Ramones made for this New Year’s event only.

Of course we’ll have some more specials, including the legendary Ramones Museum Lottery with even more valuebale prices like signed photos, an original Farewell Argentina shirt from Buenos Aires 1996, CD’s, LP’s, books and all kinds of Ramones memorabilia to be won.

Plus you’ll get the full dosage of Ramones hits all day long: From “Rockaway Beach” to “Blitzkrieg Bop”, from “Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue” to “We’re A Happy Family” – New Year’s 1977 was The Ramones at their peak!

With this special “It’s Alive” event the Ramones Museum will kick 2006 in the ass and will welcome 2007, which will not see the release of the mysterious “It’s Alive” footage that has never been released on VHS or DVD and that is scheduled for late summer 2007, but will also be another year of highlights here in The Ramones Museum: With even more memorabilia, sick stories, special guests, fun events and great partys.

Thank you all for your time, interest and passion and we hope to see you in the Ramones Museum for our “It’s Alive” weekend. Merry X-Mas, be well and yes, this time we’ll take some pictures J

Die Toten Hosen were nice enough to feature the Ramones Museum Berlin in their "Freunde des Hauses" section. In German only.

December 7, 2006

Hi everyone,
we’re a bunch of nogoodnicks as ALL of us (kind of) forgot take take a proper amount of pictures during our already legendary 1st anniversary party which took place in Berlin a couple of days ago and which was attended by more than 500 devoted Ramones fans! But still we managed to collect a few impressions of the party. Please check our photo gallery. Anyway, here’s some great news: Our good friend Mela documented the whole night by recording all action on a professional camera. Right now she’s in the editing room to turn all footage into a proper 10-15 minute movie which we will “broadcast” soon via www.ramonesmuseum.com, www.myspace.com/ramonesmuseum and youtube.com!

We’d like to thank every single one who attended our 1st anniversary party at the Cassiopeia in Berlin, we’d like to thank Goerge DuBose for being there and everything he has done for the Ramones Museum. We’d like to thank unclesally*s magazine for organizing and promoting our bash with passion and power. We’d like to thank Die Toten Hosen for their support and last but not least we’d like to thank the incredible Rämouns (www.raemouns.de) who made us travel in time and experience the glory, passion and power of what was a Ramones show back in the day – you were just p.e.r.f.e.c.t.. Thank you very much for being part of this night and thanx for making us having a blast!

For everyone who’s planning a trip to Berlin before x-Mas or for New Year’s, we’d be very happy to welcome you in the Ramones Museum all December weekends except December 24 (Sunday). We just installed a few brandnew items including the superrare and controversial “Glue Sniff Disc Shocker”-headline from the Scotland Evening Times, August 19, 1976 (almost two month before the Sex Pistols’ appearance at the Bill Grundy Show) and Marky Ramone’s bassdrum skin from 1991, signed by the group. Around New Year’s we’ll have another beauty installed in the museum: Joey Ramone’s stage used mic stand. Yes, that’s right, Joey’s original mic stand which he smashed during the last ever Ramones performance in NYC, February 29, 1996. Stay tuned for pictures.

Here’s another Ramones news you might be interested in: Next year there will be a new, official Ramones DVD including the legendary Ramones gig at the Rainbow in London, New Year’s Eve 1977. The guys in charge of this DVD are in touch with our good friend Nicky Latzoni who contributed countless rare and never before seen photos from The Ramones performing in 1975 and 1976 to the museum. Nicky not only took hundreds of photos but he filmed the Ramones performing live in Toronto in 1976, capturing their performance on Super 8 – with a little luck we’ll be able to see his never before seen material in the upcoming Live-DVD, due in the summer of 2007.

Right now we’re in the planning stages for a special “It’s Alive”-Event on December 31, including some action in the museum, so make sure to visit us anytime soon. Best wishes to all of you!

Oktober 31, 2006

Dear all,
it’s time to celebrate our first anniversary. 14 month after the opening of the world’s first and only Ramones Museum in Berlin, Germany, we’d like to say Thank You! to everyone who came down to the memorabilia basment to share their love for The Ramones. We met hundreds of incredibly great people, we met fans who traveled thousands of miles to come see the museum, we met eyewitnesses from all different Ramones eras and we listened to dozens of stunning Ramones stories from people who were there when the band was still around.

So now it’s time to party and we came up with a few cool gimmicks for our first anniversary party here in Berlin. First we invited the by far most original Ramones lookalike/soundalike cover-group from Düsseldorf: The Rämouns. Lemmy, Butch, Micky and Triny are close to perfect when it comes to imitate the significant ramones stage antics like the back/front choreography from guitar and bass, the “1,2,3,4”s or the right moment to take off the leather jackets. The guys recently recorded their trip to Argentina for a DVD called “Evita Is A Punkrocker” and shared a stage with Die Toten Hosen and The Beatsteaks. If you never saw The Ramones – these guys will introduce you to the magic that was a Ramones show. If you were lucky enough to see The Ramones live – these guys make you feel like it was yesterday.

Of course we have plenty of specials for our first anniversary. After the Rämouns live set we have two dancefloors with the best Punk- and Power-Pop tunes of all times, brought to you by our DJ’s Pelt Sematary and El Pogo. Plus we’ll have another one of our legendary Ramones lotterys with valueable prices like original Ramones tour shirts, posters and all kinds of memorabilia. Furthermore we’ll announce a Joey Ramone lookalike contest – whoever comes closest to Joey’s personality will win the big Joey Ramone lookalike trophy! Also you can see some exclusive items from the Ramones Museum collection.

Another highlight will be Goerge DuBose’s Ramones show with never before seen Ramones photos. George DuBose shot countless Ramones covers, including the legendary “Subterranean Jungle” cover, the one for “Too Tough To Die” or “Mondo Bizarro”. George will be present for this special occasion and will do his best to answer your questions that you might have concerning his photos and his personal memories of Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee, Marky, Richie and CJ Ramone. Of course you’ll have the chance to purchase limited prints of his Ramones photos.

Let’s make this a night to remember.

All Ramones Museum newsletter subscribers will have an exclusive access to the party. Just drop us a line with your full name and the names of your friends and we’ll reserve you a spot on the list (normal admission fees apply). There’s a 300 people limit to the club so make sure to let us know if you wanna come. We’ll reserve your place on the list until 23.00 hours (11pm).

Here’s the details:
When: Friday, November 17, 2006
Where: Cassiopeia Club, Revalerstr. 99, 10245 Berlin-Friedrichshain
Starts: 22.00 hours
Admission: 6 Euros
Live: The Rämouns (Düsseldorf)
DJ’S: Pelt Sematary, El Pogo
Specials: George DuBose photo show, Joey Ramone lookalike contest, Ramones lottery

WORLD EXCLUSIVE!
Read Rob freeman's eyewitness report from the "Ramones" recording sessions

April 11, 2006

Dear all,

we’re proud to announce our very special jubilee-weekend at the Ramones Museum on Saturday, April 22nd and Sunday, April 23rd to celebrate the 30. anniversary of The Ramones’ debut album.

“Ramones” was released April 23rd, 1976. The 14 album tracks changed the musical landscape forever. “Ramones” kickstarted punk rock, it was the major influence on UK bands like the Sex Pistols and the Clash and even today it still sounds as powerful and fresh as when it was first unleashed.

Rob Freeman was the man behind the console, giving “Ramones” its distinctive sound by setting up the amps and the microphones in the studio and placing the bandmembers in separate rooms of the Plaza Sound Studios in NYC. Now, for the first time in 30 years, Rob will reveal all details about the recording of “Ramones”:

- Who sang the background-vocals for “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend”?
- Was it a real chainsaw that was used for the intro of “Chainsaw”?
- Who decided to change the lyrics for “Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World”?

All this and more you’ll find out April 22nd and April 23rd, when Rob Freeman’s eyewitness story will see the light of day.

Flavoured with never before seen photos by Ramones Manager Danny Fields, Freeman’s printed report will be available for free here at the Ramones Museum, so anyone who will visit us on April 22 (an on) will have the chance to get an insight on the recording of the first album. For everyone who can’t make it to Berlin for this occasion, you’ll be able to read Rob Freeman’s story online at www.ramonesmuseum.com on April 22, midnight CET, 30 years after the release of “Ramones”.

Here’s something else you might like:

For everyone who will be in London these days, there’s two photo exhibitions you shouldn’t miss.

Running until April 16, the “Bande à Part” show focusses on the New York Underground in the 60s, 70s and 80s, and features the work of famous photographers like Roberta Bayley, Danny Fields, Godlis, Leee Black Childers and more.
“Bande à Part” at The Painting Rooms, Flitcroft St./Corner Denmark St., London WC2H 8DH, Tuesday – Sunday 11 – 6pm, Thursday until 9pm, www.elmslesters.co.uk

April 26 is the opening night for a “Ramones only” photo exhibition. Running until mid may this exhibition features exclusive and never before seen images from legends like George DuBose, Roberta Bayley, Adrian Boot, Philippe Carly, Chip Dayton, Godlis and Robert Matheu.
“Ramones” at Proud Galleries, 5 Buckingham Street, London WC2N 6 BP, www.proud.co.uk

We just added some brand new items to the museum. Check the “Highlight”- and “Showroom”-sections of www.ramonesmuseum.com for details.

March 2, 2006

Check out our press-section for the MTV-"Rockzone"-Special, featuring Danko Jones in the Ramones Museum. See and hear Danko talk about his new album "Sleep Is The Enemy" and about his favourite Ramones record.

Here's a picture from Rob Freeman (front left) and the Ramones. Rob was the sound engineer for "Ramones" and we will have his eyewitness report on the recording of this legendary debut in the museum shortly. Check this news section for updates.

February 22, 2006

First of all we’d like to let you know that Marky Ramone’s visit to the Ramones Museum, which was scheduled for next friday, february 24, has been CANCELLED! as Marky decided not to play his European tour with Anti Product. For that reason the signing lesson with Marky Ramone will NOT happen. Sorry to all you people out there who planned a trip to the museum, we are as sad as you are. Here’s what Marky had to say about the cancellation of his tour:

"Sorry to have to give you the bad news but I had to cancel the tour. It's too much to explain you the whole situation but I was promised things and at the last minute found out that the promises were not going to be kept. I will try my best to make it up to you in the future." (Marky Ramone)

Nevertheless we’ll continue celebrating this year’s Ramones jubilees with a lot of specials coming up in spring. Stay tuned.

Also, the promised eyewitness report from Rob Freeman, the sound engineer for the mighty first Ramones album, is on it’s way to Berlin. Shortly we’ll hand out free brochures that explain you ALL you need to know about the recording of this legendary debut. Rob answers the following questions:

“What techniques gave Ramones its distinctive sound?”
“Why is Dee Dee’s bass only heard on the left speaker?”
“Did the chainsaw come from a sound effects library?”
“Who is really singing on the album?”

You know any of the answers?!

We recently told you about some really rare live shots from a very nice man called Nicky Latzoni, who saw The Ramones numerous times in 1976 and who shot some legendary pictures that you can check out at www.ramonesmuseum.com, too. Nicky was also the publisher of a magazine called “All The Young Dudes”, Vol. 1 #6 (1976) featuring Joey Ramone on the cover. Nicky contributed an original copy of his magazine plus the original cover artwork for “All The Young Dudes” to the museum. It will be on display very soon. Check the “news” section of our webpage for all updates on new items.

Finally we’d like to let you know that MTV will finally screen the Danko Jones special wednesday, february 22, between 23:00 and 00:00 hours CET on MTV. See and hear Danko Jones talking about his new album “Sleep Is The Enemy” and the impact The Ramones had on his life and his music. Of course you’ll also get some cool footage from the inside of the museum. For all you people out there who can’t witness the screening: No worries, we’ll have a copy of the MTV Danko Jones Special in our “press” section soon.

That’s all for now, be well,

Flo
